If you put down $300 on a Slate in the last few weeks, congratulations: you’re in line for a truck that doesn’t exist yet. Here’s what actually happens between now and the day it shows up in your driveway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where things stand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Slate’s process runs in three stages, and it’s worth knowing all three now rather than getting surprised by one later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preorder (done). Your $300 deposit is non-refundable but counts toward your final purchase price. If you converted an earlier $50 reservation into a preorder, you only owed the $250 difference. Either way, this deposit is what locks in your place in the delivery queue, not a purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buy, starting fall 2026. As your delivery window gets closer, Slate says it will reach out so you can pick your wrap color and accessories, review financing or payment options, and sign the purchase agreement. This is the step that actually turns a deposit into an order. Nothing is final before this point, including your color, your accessories, or how you’re paying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivery, beginning late 2026. You either pick up your Slate or pay extra to have it brought to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The base truck is $24,950, the SUV conversion is $29,950, and both figures exclude taxes, title, registration, a $1,450 destination charge, and documentation fees. None of that is new information if you’ve been following the reveal coverage, but it’s worth restating here because it’s the number your financing conversation this fall will actually be built around, not the headline price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delivery timeline, and why it’s more nuanced than “late 2026”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Slate’s own site still says delivery begins “late 2026,” with no further breakdown. That’s technically accurate and also not the whole picture for most people reading this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Independent, post-reveal reporting (not Slate’s own marketing) has been more specific: the first trucks are expected to leave the factory in Q4 2026, but the real production ramp, the point where Slate is building and delivering at volume, looks more like Q1 through Q2 of 2027. Slate has said it’s sitting on more than 180,000 reservations. Simple math says most of those people are not getting a Q4 2026 truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn’t really a story about Slate slipping a date. It’s a story about “late 2026” being true for the first batch and misleading as a description of when most depositors should actually expect their truck. If you preordered recently, plan around a 2027 delivery unless Slate’s communication to you specifically says otherwise. If you were an early reservation holder who converted quickly, you’re closer to the front of the line, but “closer to the front” of a 180,000-person queue still isn’t the same as “first quarter.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treat your specific delivery window as the only number that matters once Slate assigns one. It’ll be visible in your account, and it’s the thing to check periodically rather than general “late 2026” language on Slate’s site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What this means for you, practically<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Between now and fall 2026, there’s nothing to do. No decisions are pending. Your deposit is in, your place in line is set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fall, expect the personalization step to open. Slate builds customization around vinyl wraps rather than paint. Classic single-color wraps run around $500 in materials plus roughly another $500 for professional installation, so budget close to $1,000 on top of the base price for a wrapped, professionally installed truck in one of more than 100 colors. Limited-run designs, like the Crayola collaboration that launched this summer at $1,549.99 each, cost more. If you’d rather not build from scratch, Slate now also offers pre-assembled themed packs<\/a> as a starting point, though it’s worth checking each one’s total against the destination fee before trusting the marketing price. You don’t have to decide any of this today. It opens when Slate says it opens, and you’ll pick your combination then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When your window approaches, expect the financing and purchase agreement conversation. Slate has said financing and payment options will be part of that same “buy” step, alongside the purchase agreement. Exact financing terms, lenders, and rates aren’t published in detail yet, so there’s nothing concrete to plan around here beyond knowing the conversation is coming, not knowing its terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivery is the last step, and it’s flexible. You can pick up your Slate, or pay to have it delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
